This year's Playstation Experience was incredibly well-done as many considered it to be the "E3" for Sony. There were a lot of indie booths (as expected), and so Senshudo set out to find the quiet gems in the crowd. Luckily, we stopped by the booth for Tooth and Tail, a rare but solid real-time strategy game for the Sony Playstation.
Now the "gotcha" about RTS on a console is that it doesn't really work well. Imagine selecting a group of units, deselecting a specific one, and sending them off to attack a nearby base with a controller. It's never easy to coordinate that using analog sticks. Well, Andy Schatz and the brains behind Pocketwatch Games developed a console-friendly method of controlling the masses on screen. Instead of controlling all units at one time, players control a single "rallying" unit that builds structures to produce units and rallys the critter troops to a specific location. We only got to see a glimpse of the units available in our short playtime, but the marriage of nostalgic pixelated artwork, RTS elements, and a Brian Jacques-like universe made the experience pretty fun.
Maps in this game aren't as grandiose as you might come across with standard-fare RTS games, but that isn't keeping the competition from happening. Pocketwatch Games just ended another competition named November Knockout. On December 17th they're rolling out another competition named Faction Frenzy 3! Check out more information and goodies on their website, or take a gander at the teaser video below! There isn't a release date yet for the game, but it will be available on PS4, PC, and Linux too!
