Sony have confirmed that they are indeed working on the next generation of PlayStation console.
Stopping short of calling it the PlayStation 5, and with no real details, Sony CEO spoke to the Financial Times saying "At this point, what I can say is it's necessary to have a next-generation hardware".
While there have been rumblings and rumors for the past year or so that Sony is already working on the next generation of its PlayStation console, this is the first time we've heard it directly from Sony themselves. It will be interesting to see how long it takes for a formal announcement to be made, given the confirmation, we can hope that it will happen sooner rather than later. This could also be a reason why Sony has slashed the price of the PS4 Pro in Japan, with plans to phase out the base model PS4 all together.
Only time will tell but I wouldn't be surprised if next E3 we got at least a tease of whats to come from Sony.
