After being leaked online by Target yesterday, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and Monolith Productions officially revealed Middle Earth: Shadow of War, a sequel to the 2015 title Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor.

An announcement trailer made the game official and looks absolutely stunning.

Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment today announced Middle-earth: Shadow of War™, the sequel to the critically-acclaimed Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor™, winner of more than 50 industry awards, including 2015 Game Developers Choice Awards’ Game of the Year, Outstanding Innovation in Gaming at the 2015 D.I.C.E. Awards and the BAFTA for Game Design. Developed by Monolith Productions, Middle-earth: Shadow of War™ features an original story with the return of Talion and Celebrimbor, who must go behind enemy lines to forge an army and turn all of Mordor against the Dark Lord, Sauron.

The trailer shows Talion and Celebrimbor fighting together against Sauron, creating their own Ring of Power. A host of familiar Lord of the Rings characters also make a return including orcs and the mighty Balorog.

We're hoping that this game will continue the stellar combat from Shadow of Mordor, while fixing some of the other issues that we had with the original title.

A gameplay reveal will be shown on March 8th, and the game looks to release August 22nd, 2017 for PC, Xbox One, and PS4.

We'll keep you updated on the news as we get it for Middle Earth: Shadow of War.
