Borderlands: The Handsome Collection Announced

Gearbox Software have announced that they will be releasing a bundle of two of the three games in the Borderlands series for the first time on PS4 and Xbox One. They have named the bundle “The Handsome Collection”, and it will contain HD remastered versions of The Pre-Sequel and Borderlands 2, with all of the DLC included too.

Gearbox has justified not adding the original Borderlands title to the bundle by stating that the game can be completely skipped if you're just following Handsome Jack story. I personally find this rather frustrating because out of all three Borderlands titles, the original could have actually done with a HD remastered version as it is rather old and dated now and online servers have been closed for the game. I'm not sure how 2 games out of a series of 3 is being classified as a “collection” but it just seems like another lazy HD port to me.

Split screen four player multiplayer is being added to the title which is a blessing as I was beginning to feel as though local co-op had died off in the past few years but I don't think that is enough to justify buying games I already own so shortly after their original release dates. I'm going to give this bundle a miss. Gearbox will eventually release a HD remastered version of the entire series and I will feel shafted by them in the long run. However this would be a great start for people who have not yet played the Borderlands series and don't mind missing out the original title in the series.

Borderlands 2 and the Pre-Sequel received high levels of praise and are regarded as amazing FPS games among critics so are definitely worth spending your money on if you are yet to experience them. The handsome collection will retail at $59.99 and has a release date set of 24th March for North American and the 27th March for the UK. There is still no word on whether the games will be able to be purchased separately on each of the consoles respective online game stores.
