Banjo Kazooie inspired 'buddy platformer' Yooka-Laylee has blitzed through its initial £175k goal, reaching £720,000 in its first day, and a whopping £960k by this morning.

The Kickstarter campaign has also guaranteed almost all of the initial stretch goals, with the highest at one million being day one ports for the PS4, Xbox One and Wii U. The most recently hit targets aded four extra multiplayer modes and character designs from guest Rare veterans.

The game involves its titular pairing - a gecko lookin' chap called Yooka and a bat called Laylee - exploring a colourful land for various collectibles. With the voice of Banjo and Kazooie and Rare composer Grant Kirkhope onboard, it promises to be as close to a pure Banjo sequel as we're ever likely to get.

Helmed by several veterans of rare classics such as Donkey Kong Country and the original Banjo Kazooie, the long touted project - developers Playtonic Games have existed in some form since 2012 - finally got off the ground in March.

The team also includes CVG writer Andy Robinson on story duty, and several newer Rare alumni who seem to have all left after shipping the original Kinect Sports. If you haven't funded it and needed that extra push, here's Kirkhope himself playing the ukulele.
