A little over four years after introducing the Dominion game mode, Riot Games has announced its removal from the popular MOBA, League of Legends.

“Fewer than 0.5% of players actively play Dominion and we’re aware some number of even that small population is still bots” read the announcement from Riot. Riot stated that “alternate match types work better in short cycles than in standalone queues.”

Riot has a history of debuting short term events in League of Legends. Most recently, the winter-themed Snowdown event brought a temporary game mode with it just last year. Riot also announced that players with over 100 wins in Dominion will receive an “exclusive never-to-be-reproduced Summoner Icon” that will be gifted to those players in the next few weeks.

Dominion will disappear on February 22nd.
